Common Pass

Federal FIPS-201 PIV card

More Information

The FIPS-201 card in contact-less mode presents sixteen BCD digits of information to comprise a unique code for each card. Typical access control panels will accept 4-6 digits at best. This means that old panels cannot be used or they must be used by “cheating” using partial codes (see The High Cost of Cheating). This practice violates the purpose of the PIV card system and has unexpected and nasty side effects. Some users are even sticking old-style cards to the new cards and running a “double system” in which the PIV card is not involved in the access control at all.

Common Pass is a solution that will leverage your existing costly infrastructure, fully accommodate the FIPS-201 PIV cards as well as most other card brands and formats, interface biometrics and do it all for a much lower cost than a rip-out-and-refit.

In order to truly make use of the new PIV cards, a system must be able to handle large serializations, but also must have the capacity to store many cards in memory, another way in which existing systems fall short. Adding first responders and emergency staffers to an existing panel will exceed the panel capacity.

Common Pass is the answer!
